Poet Commentaries

Five Sevenths

There is of course a lead up to this poem.  The scars come from someplace. What was it that inspired it amd who is the enemy?  Yes it is tempting to tell you but then it would not be so poetic.

That one packs
seven times seventy
and a stupid grin,
He wears stretched wool
and scuffed leather
and walks all nonchalant.

From lobe to lobe
a grizzly scar,
both his ears
have been chewed off.

Steaks giggle on grill
his enemies shift.
under the weight
of five sevenths.
